Hello Guys. Welcome to my blog where everything is tech. Sorry for the long silence. Its not easy being a blogger nowadays as you can see its not a trending type job unlike a few decades ago. Alright. Enough of that feeling down the memory lane, today i'm going to talk about BCD. It is also called Boot Configuration Data. This is where we found the Windows loading screen each time we start up our pc or laptop. However, there are times we find in a situation where it is unable to boot pass the loading screen and keep on restarting. This is because the Boot Configuration Data is missing. This can be cause by a virus or a software clash that can corrupt the data. So other than formating your windows which can be time consuming, there is another way which is rebuilding the BCD via a command promt. Here i'll show you how.
1. Opening the System Recovery Options. There are a few ways and others than unplugging your computer intentionally. Here's how. Pressing the F8 button on the keyboard after starting up the pc and on the boot screen. Keep repeating this until a System Recovery Options interface comes out.
2. Click on the command prompt.
3. Once the command prompt is open, type the following :-
bootrec /rebuildbcd
and press enter.
4. And then this is the tricky part. One will tell you there is a window installation and the other one will tell you there is no windows installation.
5. I'll show if there is no windows installation. First we will delete the BCD and rebuild a new one. Type in the following command and press enter.
bcdedit /export c:\bcdbackup
6. Once entered, the command should return the following on screen. If not, redone it again step by step.
7. Now, you just need to adjust several attribute for the BCD store so you can manipulate it by renaming it. Type the following command and press enter.
ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old
8. Rebuild the BCD by executing the following command.
bootrec /rebuildbcd
9. It should show like below which means you are doing it correctly. Type in Y or Yes.
10. Restart the computer.
11. If the problem cause the windows fail to boot, then BCD it is. If not, there maybe another problem with the operating system.
Hope this help guys. Cherio ^_^
